About Boeing Defence Australia

Boeing Defence Australia is shaping the future of aerospace and delivering some of the nation's most important programs for the Australian Defence Force. Joining us is a chance to make your mark, working with a diverse team that is united in pushing the boundaries of imagination and excellence.

We currently employ more than 2,500 people across 14 sites in Australia and three international locations and have a range of opportunities available as we plan for future growth.

The opportunity

As Boeing Defence Australia moves toward a more digital, AI-enabled future, we are seeking a consultant to drive the practical application of Integrated Product Support (IPS) across our Australian programs. This role is centred on identifying and prioritizing the technological 'step-changes' required to transition from traditional Integrated Logistics Support to a modern, data-driven sustainment model. Collaborating closely with our programs, you will leverage existing tools to catalyse transformative change, driving quality and efficiency across the 12 IPS elements.

You will establish digital threads through traditional IPS processes—integrating the 'as designed,' 'as built,' and 'as maintained' states—while managing product support analysis and the impacts to technical data through engineering change. By utilizing Australian Defence standards, international S-series specifications, Boeing Design Practices, AI, LLMs, and data interoperability, you will ensure seamless data continuity throughout the complete asset lifecycle.

The successful candidate will possess the following personal attributes:

  • Team-Oriented and Challenge-Driven: The candidate should thrive in a team environment and enjoy tackling challenges, demonstrating a collaborative spirit and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Eagerness to Learn: A strong desire and ability to learn new concepts, processes, and technologies is essential, ensuring continuous personal and professional development.
  • Diversity and Inclusion Advocate: The candidate should actively leverage diversity and inclusion to promote innovative thinking, recognizing that a variety of perspectives can lead to more effective and creative solutions.
  • Attention to Detail and Quality Mindset: keen attention to detail is crucial, along with a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in all aspects of work, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in disposal activities.

The Support Integration Specialist - Transformation Lead is a member of the Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) Integrated Product Support Team. You will play a key role in supporting our Business Units and Programs, enabling them to deliver on our customers commitments through the continuous development and maintenance of our support systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of technical project plans, solution architecture documentation, and stakeholder presentations that clearly communicate software designs, timelines, risks, and delivery milestones to both IPS technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Lead technical demonstrations of software tools and solutions to internal teams, senior stakeholders, and end users, clearly articulating functionality, value, and implementation approach.
  • Assessing, planning, and executing the replacement of ageing or deprecated software applications, including gap analysis, migration planning, data preservation, and cutover strategies.
  • Mentoring and upskilling junior analysts and support engineers, including conducting code reviews, providing structured technical guidance, setting development goals, and fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture.
  • Compliance with cybersecurity compliance frameworks as they relate to software development, including secure coding standards, vulnerability management processes, and the ability to produce or contribute to security artefacts such as Security Risk Assessments (SRA), System Security Plans (SSP), or Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation where required.
  • Liaising with COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) vendors and navigating vendor support portals, including managing license agreements, escalating support cases, and evaluating software updates or patches.

To be successful it is essential that you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a software development or engineering role, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior capacity supporting and delivering software solutions.
  • Experience working with Integrated Product Support standards for example, MIL-STD-1388, DEF (AUST) 5691/5692, GEIA- STD-0007C Logistics Product Data, S Series Specifications.
  • Proficiency in C# and Python as primary development languages, with hands-on experience building, debugging, and maintaining production-grade applications across relevant IDEs including Visual Studio and VS Code.
  • Demonstrated experience developing applications within the .NET Framework and .NET Core including WPF, WinForms, ASP.NET, or .NET MAUI, with a strong understanding of the CLR, NuGet package management, and solution/project structuring.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, stored procedures, complex queries, indexing, and performance tuning in support of application development.
  • Hands-on experience integrating and leveraging AI/LLM endpoints (such as Azure OpenAI, OpenAI API, or equivalent) within software applications, including prompt engineering, response handling, and embedding AI-driven functions into end-user workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to transform and manipulate structured markup and data formats (XML, JSON, YAML, HTML) via scripting, including using tools such as XSLT, or equivalent Python libraries for data transformation pipelines.
  • Demonstrated experience packaging and deploying software solutions using installer frameworks such as NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System), InstallShield, or equivalent tools, including silent installs, upgrade paths, uninstall routines, and deployment to managed enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins, including automated build, test, and deployment stages, branch strategies, environment promotion, and pipeline-as-code practices.
  • Demonstrated experience practicing and implementing DevSecOps principles throughout the software development lifecycle, including the integration of automated security tooling such as SAST (Static Application Security Testing), DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing), SCA (Software Composition Analysis), and secrets scanning directly within CI/CD pipelines.
