The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking a broad range of levels to include Mid-Level (Level 3) and Lead (Level 4) Structural Analysis Engineers to join the B-1B Full Scale Fatigue Test support team located in Tukwila, Washington.

A successful member of this team will understand and execute inspections, modifications and upgrades for the Bombers B-1B Full Scale Fatigue Test and sustainment program.

Position Responsibilities (Level 3):

  • Coordinates with other teams, verbally and in writing, to establish the product's environment and ensure the best possible outcome of test plans

  • Understands industry best practices in airframe primary structure and loadpaths

  • Develops written test plans and configurations, supports test execution and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications

  • Track and support multiple tasks in work with other engineering and non-engineering groups

  • Defines and documents certification and test results to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied

  • Supports in-service products by investigating failures and analyzing improvements

  • Works with customers and regulatory agencies to define and maintain certification processes that will ensure requirements are met

  • Develops processes/tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the inspection and repair efforts

  • Oversees compliance with methodology and processes for test article inspection execution, repair and return to cycling

  • Evaluates emerging technologies to develop future product designs to meet projected requirements

  • Understands the unique challenges of working a Legacy program that was originally certified using 2D drawings, in contrast to a new development program which is purely Model Based

  • Works under general direction

Position Responsibilities (Level 4):

  • Everything from level 3 plus the following:

  • As Team Lead, will be responsible for team members properly performing their tasks

  • Schedule and status tasks assigned to team members

  • Leads development, integration and documentation of structural requirements to substantiate the system design.

  • Understands proper application of loads in FEMs and mentors early career engineers

  • Understands industry best practices in analysis and design of airframe primary structure and load paths, mentors early career engineers

  • Leads development of test plans and configurations, supports test execution and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.

  • Coordinates with other teams to establish the product's environment

  • Defines and documents certification and test results to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied

  • Supports in-service products by investigating failures and analyzing improvements

  • Works with customers and regulatory agencies to define and maintain certification processes that will ensure requirements are met

  • Develops and documents processes/tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the inspection and repair efforts

  • Oversees compliance with methodology and processes for test article inspection execution, repair and return to cycling

  • Forecasts parts and material required to execute restoration and repair using inspection requirements and ensures components are available when needed or develops and executes mitigation plans

  • Works under minimal direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Tukwila, Washington.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start may be required.

This is a union represented position.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience) :

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited course of study in engineering or engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology).

  • 3 or more years of experience in aircraft fleet support engineering or related product sustainment engineering, sizing, designing and developing complex structural repairs

  • 3 or more years leading engineering projects

  • 5 or more years’ experience using structural design engineering principles to perform analysis of aircraft structures (e.g., fatigue, damage tolerance, corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, classical hand calculations and repair techniques)

  • Excellent written, verbal communications and presentation skills

  • Skilled at building relationships across teams and within a team based on mutual respect, servant leadership, and recognizing the hidden value in others

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 9 or more years’ experience using structural design engineering principles to perform analysis of aircraft structures (e.g., fatigue, damage tolerance, corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, classical hand calculations and repair techniques)

  • Experience performing Material Review Board assessments and analysis

  • Experience managing multiple priorities, tasks and people in a dynamic environment

  • Experience writing code using Visual Basic or Python programming languages

  • Experience with large structural fatigue test campaigns

  • Experience with Aircraft Primary Structures on military high performance aircraft

  • Experience with Hypermesh, Abaqus CAE, and/or Nastran

  • Experience validating or verifying finite element model results

Summary Pay Range:

Mid-Level: $105,400 - $142,600

Expert: $129,200 - $174,800
