Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for an Industrial Waste Treatment Plant Operator to join our Facilities team in Portland, Oregon.

As an Industrial Waste Treatment Plant Operator, you will be at the forefront of our environmental stewardship efforts, managing complex systems that treat and purify industrial waste. Your expertise will be essential in operating advanced treatment technologies, monitoring chemical processes, and ensuring the safe handling of hazardous materials. You will collaborate with a dedicated team to optimize waste management practices, conduct thorough testing, and maintain compliance with stringent environmental regulations. Position Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the shop area, shift tie-ins, and paint hanger schedule to obtain work as per the Plan of the Day activity chart.

  • Operate and maintain industrial waste treatment systems, including membrane filtration and clarifiers, using continuous flow and batch processes.

  • Manage supply tanks of dry chemicals and liquids for addition to the waste stream, ensuring proper operation and maintenance.

  • Maintain an inventory of industrial waste treatment chemicals and laboratory supplies.

  • Perform pre-treatment of influent wastes with appropriate chemicals to control pH levels and remove heavy metals or solvents.

  • Monitor and operate equalization/storage tanks to transfer concentrated wastes into treatment systems at predetermined feed rates.

  • Utilize an on-line computer system to control equipment settings for the pumping and flowing of waste liquids.

  • Conduct periodic sampling of treated effluent for compliance with federal, state, and Boeing environmental requirements.

  • Operate industrial wastewater testing equipment to check influents and effluents for correct levels of pH and other parameters.

  • Maintain and operate waste sludge filter presses to remove excess sludge and metals from the treatment system.

  • Perform regular checks and calibrations of waste system sensors to maintain optimal operating conditions.

  • Maintain industrial waste test records and prepare reports on residual heavy metals, pH levels, and flow rates.

  • Troubleshoot and repair waste treatment systems, addressing issues such as leaks and equipment malfunctions.

  • Conduct in-tank maintenance, including cleaning and inspecting plumbing and liner integrity, while adhering to safety protocols.

  • Operate vacuum tanker trucks to pump and transport industrial waste to treatment facility storage tanks.

  • Prepare and maintain transportation documents for the offsite disposal of industrial waste.

  • Coordinate with environmental engineers and shop personnel to identify and dispose of hazardous industrial wastes in compliance with regulations.

  • Assist manufacturing shops with influent fluctuations or waste management as needed.

  • Maintain personal certifications and participate in safety training related to hazardous material handling

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience working with powered hand tools or equipment

  • Possess a Valid Driver’s License

  • Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 35 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience with operation of water treatment process, well systems and water distribution system operation and repair

  • 1+ years of experience working with hazardous materials

  • Experience managing environmental programs

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Pay: $40.00 potential to earn up to $59.47/hour in accordance with the terms of the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
