The Opportunity -

BDA is looking for an experienced Systems Safety Engineer to support the Helicopter Aircrewmen Training System (HATS) System Safety Program.  In this role you will be responsible for managing and executing the HATS System Safety Program.  The HATS System Safety Program encompasses both the initial and continuing airworthiness domains, including operations, as well as the Synthetic Training Environment.

The role is based at HMAS Albatross, Nowra NSW, at the BDA HATS Facility. 

As a Systems Safety Engineer within BDA, you will

  • Be an integral part of the HATS capability.
  • Be responsible for the management and assurance of the HATS System Safety program.
  • Be the Program's System Safety focal, which includes but is not limited to liaising with/providing System Safety advice to various Royal Australian Navy and Army stakeholders as well as Sub-Contractors.
  • Assist with identifying, assessing and managing risks.
  • Be familiar with DASA's Risk Management Seven Step Process.
  • Assess and document risk within a MIL-STD-882 and Defence Harmonised Risk framework.
  • Assess technical information for System Safety impact to HATS.
  • Verify, validate and document risk reduction measures.
  • Support and deliver safety training when required across the HATS enterprise.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Essential
    • System Safety relatable qualifications, training and experience.
    • Experience in risk management.
    • Experience in engineering design and/or sustainment of a materiel system comparable in complexity of HATS.
    • Demonstrable communication skills within an integrated workforce and engaging with stakeholders.
    • Demonstrable ability to organise workload, establish priorities and meet deadlines in a team-based environment.
    • Demonstrable ability to effectively manage Sub-Contractors.
    • Minimum of Baseline security clearance.
  • Desirable
    • Knowledge of DASR Safety Management Systems.
    • Knowledge of DASA's Risk Management Seven Step Process.
    • Experience within an aviation industry.
    • Knowledge of ISO 31000 Risk Management Standards.
