Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) has an exciting opportunity for an Airplane Level Integration (ALIT) Engineer (Level 3 or Level 4) to join our team located in North Charleston, SC.

The 787 Engineering organization is seeking a technical integrator to join the Airplane Level Integration Team (ALIT) to join the Engineering Operations group. The position requires a candidate with a servant leadership mindset who communicates and collaborates well with others.  They need to foster an environment that values inclusion. This role will have an emphasis on mentoring/coaching teammates, establishing positive working relationships, and instilling a culture of engineering excellence and safety, and technical leadership.

In this role, you will lead the management and integration of engineering architecture—processes, systems, and data—and their interrelationships across the airplane product lifecycle. You will also  provide technical leadership for configuration and data management, conduct and lead technical design reviews and audits, analyze complex trades/changes, and implement engineering standard processes, systems, and tools, root cause corrective action, and implementation of LEAN principles. Our Ideal candidate has a  design or manufacturing engineering background with demonstrated experience on the 787 or a comparable commercial airplane program.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead management and integration of engineering architecture (processes, systems, data) across the product lifecycle to ensure consistency, traceability, and role-appropriate data access.

  • Develop, analyze, manage and verify compliance of process and product baselines for highly integrated complex airplane products.

  • Define, plan, coordinate and conduct product- and subsystem-level technical design reviews and audits for new and derivative products.

  • Lead evaluation of complex product trades and changes; develop change proposals with impacts, risks, mitigation, and implementation plans.

  • Lead definition and rollout of Configuration Management (CM) and Data Management (DM) standards, processes, systems and tools; drive adoption across IPTs and supporting functions.

  • Define and allocate CM/DM requirements for hardware, software and engineering design data systems spanning multiple engineering functions.

  • Assure integration of product elements; analyze and resolve complex issues with product structures and cross-discipline interfaces.

  • Develop, integrate and implement engineering technical program plans including schedule impacts, risk assessments, and lessons learned incorporation.

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineering teams on CM/DM best practices, tools, and lifecycle processes.

  • Work with minimal direction and act as a primary technical integrator for assigned airplane-level integrations and change activities.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Systems or related).

  • 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in Configuration Management and Data Management for complex, highly integrated products.

  • Experience developing and conducting technical design reviews, audits, and compliance verification across multi-discipline systems.

  • Proven ability to analyze complex trades/changes and produce actionable change proposals with risk and impact assessments.

  • Familiarity with product lifecycle processes and tools (PLM, PDM, engineering data systems) and how they integrate with CM processes.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 4: Master’s degree or advanced coursework in relevant engineering or systems engineering fields.

  • Hands-on design or manufacturing engineering experience on commercial airplane programs; direct experience on the 787 program strongly preferred.

  • Prior role as a technical integrator, configuration manager, or systems engineer on commercial transport aircraft (787 preferred).

  • Experience with specific PLM/PDM or CM tools such as Enovia, Teamcenter, Windchill, IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (DOORS), or similar.

  • Knowledge of aerospace change processes, enterprise gated development, readiness levels, and regulatory compliance requirements.  Preferred experience with Non Recurring Product Definition (NRPD)

  • Familiarity with software configuration and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools.

  • Experience integrating CM/DM practices together with Agile practices and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) across engineering organizations.

  • Certification in configuration management, systems engineering, or relevant disciplines (e.g., CISCM, INCOSE, PMI-ACP).
