Boeing is seeking a Materials, Process and Tooling Engineer to support the MP&P team located in El Segundo, California.

The Materials and Process Group is open to consider a broad range of experience.

The El Segundo site designs and builds advanced space and communication systems for military, commercial, and scientific uses, including advanced digital payload, all electric propulsion and 3D manufacturing capabilities for spacecraft that can operate in the geosynchronous, medium-Earth orbit of low Earth orbital planes.

The Materials and Process Group in El Segundo develops, provides and maintains technical competency and integrity in the definition, evaluation, analysis, management, selection and control of materials, processes, and parts.  In this role, you will be providing materials and process support to El Segundo production groups.

The ideal candidate has a background with materials science and experience with tooling, materials, and processes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products

  • Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes

  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations

  • Promotes standardization across business activities

  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs

  • Leads or develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements

  • Integrates new technologies as appropriate

  • Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements.

  • Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes

  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements

  • Implements corrective and preventive actions.

  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work on-site at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret/SCI with Poly Clearance Post-Start is required

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • Strong understanding of materials and processes used in aerospace applications, including adhesives and composites.

  • Experience in conducting laboratory inspections and material testing, with a focus on quality assurance and compliance.

  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Kaizen, TVSM).

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with experience in cross-functional collaboration and project management.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to aerospace materials and tooling.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience in conducting market research and competitive analysis, particularly in emerging technologies to build a competitive advantage.

  • Experience leading shelf life extension efforts.

  • Experience improving temperature reliability by conducting annual survey processes.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with PTC Creo, along with certifications in Inventor AutoCAD and NX.

  • Proficiency in CNC operations (e.g., VCarve software) and 3D printing technologies (e.g., OctoPrint, Cura).

  • Technical writing/communication skills

  • Leadership experience

  • Project Management experience

Typical Education/Experience:

Level 2: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Typical summary pay range: $94,350 - $127,650
