Job Summary
As a Spacecraft Power Engineer, your systems will power Millennium satellites -- literally. Power engineers design most of the satellite electrical system, including overall electrical architecture, battery and solar array design, power conversion, and power distribution. They are involved from early conceptual design and development, during the detailed design phase, when components and satellites are being built and tested, and during on-orbit operations of the satellite. Whether it’s performing low-level electrical circuit design, analyzing the worst-case energy balance of a satellite, or troubleshooting an anomaly of an on-orbit satellite, you will have a hand in it all.

This position’s internal job code is Elect Design and Analysis. Our team is currently hiring for the level range of 3-4.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform spacecraft Electrical Power Subsystem design and analysis at the spacecraft level, including interfaces with other subsystems

  • Develop system, subsystem, and component level requirements derived from higher level requirements sets

  • Develop spacecraft level power models to predict power loading and performance margins to support system design

  • Support battery, solar array, and electronics design

  • Brief design and analysis materials to program managers, customers, and/or sponsors

  • Support system level functional and environmental testing

  • Provide on-orbit support during mission operations and anomaly resolution

  • Assist in proposal and business development efforts

  • Coordinate efforts with consultants when necessary

  • Manage cost and schedule for satellite EPS tasks

  • Mentor junior engineers

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in electrical, computer, or other relevant engineering discipline

  • 5 or more years experience in the design, development, analysis, implementation, testing, and/or operation of spacecraft power systems

  • Experience modeling and simulating power system loads against input power

  • Experience with and knowledge of solar arrays and Li-ion batteries, how they’re designed, built, and tested

  • Experience with power control and distribution electronics and architectures

  • Experience working with engineers of multiple disciplines in the design and test of complex systems

  • Experience writing and reviewing technical documents such as test procedures, design diagrams, and requirements specifications

  • Experience testing electronics using tools such DMMs, oscilloscopes, PSUs, E-Loads, and custom test racks

  • Knowledge of power circuit design fundamentals

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with high-reliability automotive or aerospace electronics

  • Experience with mitigation of space environmental effects on electronics, solar arrays, and batteries

  • Experience in MATLAB or other comparable software tool

  • Experience with managing project budgets and schedules

  • Experience with mentoring junior engineers
