The Boeing Company is currently seeking Software Engineers- Developersto support ourSpace Mission Systems (SMS) Ground Mission Management (GMM) team with our Protected Tactical Enterprise Service (PTES) program in Colorado Spring, Colorado.This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization.

We are seeking SWEs with extensive Java microservice experience using Kubernetes. This engineer should be passionate about designing high quality software and support integration and testing as part of a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment team

The PTES program is spearheading the development of a new Global Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) Ground System, designed to manage the transmission of protected tactical waveforms—secure, anti-jam communication—utilizing Boeing-built Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellites and terminals.

As a member of the Boeing software team, you will be involved in the entire product development lifecycle, from conceptualization and development to the maintenance and support of the delivered system for our customers. These roles provide opportunities for you to significantly influence project outcomes. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Experienced and Senior Level Software Engineers.

Position Responsibilities: (Please add your position responsibilities, it will need to be in a bulleted format)

  • Building performance, secure, java microservices running in a containerized kubernetes environment. 

  • Designing, enhancing, and improving APIs between front-end and backend software services

  • Leading the development of critical features, taking ownership of the entire development lifecycle from design to deployment 

  • Conducting thorough code reviews to maintain code quality, enforce best practices, and ensure code adheres to established standards 

  • Creating and translating design mockups into functional, visually appealing user interfaces using modern front-end frameworks (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, PostgREST, Svelte, React, CesiumJS) and technologies like Python, JavaScript, Typescript, CSS, and Kubernetes

  • Advocating for improvements to product quality, security, and performance that have a particular impact on your team and others.

  • Supporting junior engineering talent with mentorship or technical guidance.

  • Excellent communication skills, working with end-users to design and build solutions to their needs, a habit of self-directed learning of new technologies, and the ability to learn quickly and adapt to a fast-paced environment.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • 3+ years of Java development experience

  • 3+ years of microservice development.

  • 3+ years of data structure experience using appropriate data structures (arrays, linked lists, or trees) to solve complex problems.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 3+ years of experience event-driven processing (EDP) software development in designing, building, deploying, maintaining complex scalable systems where the flow is determined by events (state changes).

  • Level 3: 3 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Level 4: 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Active Secret Clearance

  • Hands-on experience with distributed tracing, metrics, and logging (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).

  • Proficiency with Quarkus or Spring for building cloud-native Java applications.

  • Experience with OptaPlanner for constraint solving and optimization.

  • Experience with build and dependency management skills with Maven

  • Hands-on experience with Kafka Streams or similar streaming frameworks.

  • Hands on experience deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes; knowledge of Helm for packaging and deployment

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tooling.

  • Able to work with ambiguity and can self-direct your work while guiding others and supporting project leadership activities.

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices, along with experience supporting Government security requirements for software delivery involving system accreditation

Pay & Benefits:

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range for Experienced Level (Level 3): $119,000 - $161,000

Summary pay range for Senior Level (Level 4): $146,200 - $197,800
