The Opportunity

Boeing Defence Australia's Helicopter Aircrew Training System (HATS) Program is responsible for the development and support of the Australian Navy and Army Joint Helicopter School training program (723 Squadron), featuring the EC-135T2+ aircraft and a suite of synthetic training devices.

We are now recruiting for a key program role, Flight Operations Manager (FOM), to help us deliver this key Australian Defence Force rotary wing capability.

This role is based at HMAS Albatross, Nowra, in the Shoalhaven region. The area is known for an abundance of beautiful landscapes, recreational activities and business services, with a family friendly and relaxed atmosphere only 2 ½ hours drive to Sydney.

The FOM's primary role is to work with the ADF Operations Officer (OPSO) in forward planning of training requirements, providing oversight on day-to-day flight program activities, allocation of resources and accurately reporting training requirements being met. This role supports the OPSO in the coordination of wider ADF and Commonwealth assets for 723 Squadron success, while managing a small team of BDA operations staff.

This is your opportunity to help create the next generation of Navy and Army rotary wing aircrew.

Responsibilities:

The Flight Operations Manager will form part of a small Operations team consisting of BDA and Commonwealth personnel. The Operations team is headed by a Commonwealth Operations Officer (OPSO) and is responsible for the day-to-day planning and management of training.

The FOM responsibilities will include:

  • Being the lead member and manager of BDA within the Operations team at 723 SQN
  • Being a member of the HATS Extended Leadership Team
  • A strong focus on forward planning of all required courses and training events with pre-course preparation, coordination of Course Manager requirements and next phase preparation
  • Generation and maintenance of personnel assigned to courses for crewing purposes
  • Management of BDA operations room personnel providing OJT, shift planning and daily management
  • Recording accurate flight reporting data
  • Recording post course administration and closure
  • Periodic updates and drafting of contractual Operations related documents for further approval
  • Flight Operations program support to the HATS Program Manager and Training Manager as required

Experience/Qualifications

  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Experience in flight management systems such as FlightPro™ and/or Patriot Excalibur
  • Experience in Defence or Commercial flying schools with complex programing
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously
  • Demonstrated ability to work within pre-set program timeframes
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and tying of business goals with customer and contractual requirements
  • Flexibility to react to short notice requests from the OPSO

Please note this role may be required to fulfil day and night rosters. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and we encourage movement within the organisation; our aim is to nurture our existing employees and help them reach their full potential.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.

Physical Requirements

Boeing Defence Australia specific site positions will have physical requirements which are applicable. Physical requirements are outlined by the recruitment manager in consultation with the Environment Health & Safety Department.
