Job Description

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

The Boeing Company Space Launch System team is seeking a highly motivated entry or associate level Materials & Processes (M&P) engineer to join our team located at the Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans, LA.

This position involves applying knowledge of aerospace materials and processes to support the production of the Core Stage and Exploration Upper Stage on the Space Launch System (SLS) Program. This includes ability to interpret material and process specifications and engineering drawings, troubleshooting of non-conformance conditions and associated corrective and preventative actions, and general production floor support during all stages of the build at MAF. This includes interfacing with various engineering groups, production technicians, and product, program, and engineering management. This also includes working directly with NASA employees and their contractors.

This role is for off-shift production support and will require flexibility based on shifting program needs. The initial support will be for a weekend support schedule but may eventually shift to a second shift support schedule as production work transitions. Occasional travel may be needed for emergent program support needs.

This is a team-based position requiring working alongside various engineering functions, production technicians, and laboratories to support hardware builds. Problem solving skills are essential, and the individual must be able to communicate clearly in both verbal and written form to customers, technicians, and management.

Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support production in implementing the materials and processes controlled per engineering, NASA requirements, and Boeing processes – including contamination control, corrosion control, organic coatings, spray-on insulation and pour foams, adhesives, and other processes.

  • Evaluate engineering non-conformances for M&P-related issues to provide technical rationale for disposition whether it be a rework, repair, scrap, or use-as-is disposition with collaboration from other engineering disciplines to identify the best solution for the program considering quality, cost, and schedule constraints.

  • Support certification of controlled work areas and temporary environmental control zones for contamination-sensitive hardware

  • Assist in implementing corrective and preventative actions

  • Generate and release specifications, test plans, and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts, and processes

  • Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations/requirements and promote standardization across business activities

  • Knowledge and ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings

  • Conduct and recommend analysis to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts, and processes.

  • Flexibility in work shift assignment - This role is for off-shift production support and will require flexibility based on shifting program needs. The initial support will be for a weekend support schedule but may eventually shift to a second shift support schedule as production work transitions.

This job is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, LA.
