Boeing Defense, Space, & Security (BDS) is currently seeking a SeniorStructures & Payload Design Engineer to become part of the AH-64 Apache Airframe Integrated Product Team (IPT) in Mesa, AZ.

The Airframe IPT is responsible for the entire life cycle of the AH-64 Apache primary, secondary, and tertiary structure including requirements definition, design, fabrication/procurement, test, production, and support to the field. The Airframe IPT is a flexible team that strategically adapts to emerging opportunities as it provides engineering support across multiple projects/programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, integrates, and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.

  • Develops, maintains, and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Leads performance, integration, and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems.

  • Ensure components meet requirements and specifications.

  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.

  • Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

  • Serves as Technical Lead Engineer (TLE) for all Design Engineering activities including technical quality review of the design development, documentation and changes for Model Base Definition (MBD), and 2D engineering definition.

  • Provides technical solutions to complex problems that require ingenuity and creativity.

  • Supports on-going supplier and customer activities providing real-time support.

  • Supports in-service products by investigating failures and analyzing improvements.

  • Supports Configuration Control Board and Engineering Review Board as Design TLE.

  • Provides leadership, coaching, and technical oversight to other Mechanical Design Engineers.

  • Supports proposal preparation and new business development efforts.

  • Strong written, verbal communications, and presentation skills.

  • Willingness to travel 20% of the time domestically and internationally.

  • Works under minimal direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical and/or structural design

  • 5+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications

  • 5+ years of experience in CAD/CAM software (Siemens NX, CATIA V5, SolidWorks)

  • Willingness to travel 20% of the time domestically and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • (Level 4) - Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years’ experience or Master’s and 7+ years

  • (Level 5) - Bachelor’s degree and 14+ years’ experience or Master’s and 12+ years

  • 7+ years of experience creating, executing, reviewing, and managing structural design models

  • 7+ years of experience working conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design including 2D drawings and 3D deliverables

  • Experience providing detailed engineering work and schedule estimates for complex projects

  • Experience in post-production systems with emphasis on military aircraft sustainment, repairs, and modification programs

  • Loft and nesting experience

  • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time domestically and internationally

  • Strong written, verbal communications, and presentation skills

Typical Education/Experience:

(Level 4)

Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

(Level 5)

Bachelor's degree and typically 14 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 12 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range (level 4):  $113,050 - $152,950

Summary pay range (level 5):  $134,300 - $181,700
