The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Software Engineering Managerto support ourSpace Launch System (SLS) Ground Systems and Integration (GS&I) teamlocated inHuntsville, Alabama.This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization.

The Space Launch System Ground Systems and Integration represent a team of problem solvers whose primary goal is to develop and maintain software to ensure the SLS launch vehicles and associated products are ready for delivery to NASA. The GS&I team develops and supports three key products: Electrical Ground Support Equipment, Enhanced Battery Charge/Discharge Equipment, and MAF Test Flight Computer. The GS&I team directly supports ground-based testing of the SLS vehicle for manufacturing and key test events. The Software Engineering Manager will provide direct management over the software integration, verification, and requirement teamsAdditionally, the Manager will help bridge the gap between product development and product deployment with close ties to stakeholders in the Michoud Assembly Facility, Kennedy Space Center, Marshall Space Flight Center, and Stennis Space Center.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support, lead, and efficiently delegate the project team's responsibilities and tasks through all stages of the project lifecycle

  • Lead the establishment of common design practices, and workflows for code-generation, validation, and incorporation of these software products into a complex testing asset

  • Manage the Avionics Integration Lab operations including development/obsolescence, maintenance, and execution of AIL Operation Plan and associated IT Security Plans

  • Partner with Boeing system design, engineering, and testing/verification teams to ensure effective integration and support for the full product lifecycle

  • Gather and interpret diverse technical information to guide development

  • Develop plans, budgets; estimate timelines and resources needed for success

  • Manage Risks, Issues & Opportunities

  • Identify appropriate goals and metrics for product success and drive implementation across the teams

  • Establish the appropriate type and level of processes to improve product quality, developer performance and experience; simplify existing complex processes as needed; nurture and grow automation into builds/deployment/ and testing

  • Collaborate with leadership team on strategy development to leverage the engineering and assets for long term transitions with the business strategy for SLS

  • Provide clear written and spoken communication to a variety of audiences

  • Foster a culture that supports diversity and inclusion

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • 8+ years of experience with the Software Development Lifecycle (including Requirements Analysis, Design, Code, Integration & Test)

  • 3+ years of experience with performing software integration, test, validation, and verification

  • 2+ years of experienceleading projects and/or individuals in software development lifecycle tasks

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Experience with mission/safety critical software development

  • Experience leading, managing, and growing software teams

  • Experience developing project execution plans, schedules and budgets

  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM)

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

Travel:10%

NASA Access:

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range for Manager Level: $132,600 - $179,400
