Boeing Defense, Space, and Security has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Structural & Payload Design Engineer to join the MQ-25 Air Vehicle Structures & Integration team located in Hazelwood, Missouri.

The MQ-25 is a new autonomous, unmanned carrier based refueling air vehicle. The MQ-25 program is working the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) of seven (7) flight vehicles and two (2) full-scale test articles for the U.S. Navy. The Airframe team is responsible for the design definition and structural analysis of the major structural components of the Air Vehicle. The MQ-25 Air Vehicle Structures & Integration team has a broad responsibility over the structural design and analysis of the folding wings, tails, inlet, nozzle, fuselage composite skins, doors, pylon, and airframe structures. The MQ-25 design includes metallic substructure components, carbon fiber reinforced skins, and uses advanced assembly techniques for its state-of-the-art build.

The MQ-25 is currently built in two (2) locations with initial assembly in Berkeley, Missouri and final assembly in Mascoutah, Illinois with Engineering support located in Hazelwood, Missouri. The successful applicant is expected to provide as-needed in-person support at these locations as the assembly line transitions fully to Mascoutah, Illinois.

The MQ-25 uses a model-based design engineering release process and product data management tools. This is an excellent opportunity to experience early vehicle production and testing of a new franchise platform.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Work under the general direction of lead design engineers, assuming limited delegations of authority

  • Prepare, advocate, and seek approval of engineering changes at the Change Control Board (CCB)

  • Assist in determining the Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) necessary to improve the product’s engineering definition

  • Mentor junior engineers in design best practices

  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Develop solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives

  • Independently determine and develop approaches to solutions. Receive general direction for work that is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives

  • Interact frequently with inter-organizational personnel and external customers. Represent the organization by providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects

  • Provide in-person production (“shop”) support in both the Saint Louis, MO and Mascoutah, IL areas

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. 

Travel may be required up to 20% of the time; Domestically depending on business needs.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S.Top Secret Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience): 

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Minimum of three (3) or more years of established aerospace structural design engineering experience in a professional environment.

  • Experience independently preparing CAD models and engineering change orders for both detail components and assemblies. 

  • Experience with the design and manufacturing of aerospace metallic components and assemblies. 

  • Experience working with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as Siemens NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or equivalent. 

  • Experience working with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software such as Siemens TeamCenter, Dassault Systems ENOVIA, or equivalent. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working in a production environment. 

  • Experience working in an Engineering and Manufacturing Development environment. 

  • Experience working in a franchise military fighter program. 

  • Experience with Naval carrier-based aircraft design and manufacturing. 

  • Experience with the design and manufacturing of aerospace composite components. 

  • Experience with Siemens NX and TeamCenter CAD and PLM software. 

  • Experience with Siemens FiberSim composites design and simulation software or equivalent. 

  • Experience working with internal and external customers and suppliers 

  • Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) processes. 

  • Experience with evaluating dispositions to Nonconformance Records (NCR). 

  • Experience with evaluating and responding to Technical Supplier Information Requests (TSIR). 

  • Experience working within Quality Management Systems, such as SAE AS9100. 

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $90,100 - $121,900
