Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Sign Painter to join our Paint team in Everett Washington.

As a Sign Painter, you will bring creativity and precision to the design and production of a wide range of visual graphics, including company signs, illustrations, and lettering. This role combines traditional handcrafting techniques with modern digital tools to create impactful and visually appealing graphics that support various departments and projects. You will collaborate closely with customers and internal teams to translate concepts into finished products, utilizing your expertise in layout, color application, and specialized materials such as gold and silver leaf. Position Responsibilities

  • Layout and design company signs, illustrations, lettering, and graphics of various types, sizes, and colors using freehand methods and computer software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).

  • Apply gold and silver leaf, paints, varnishes, lacquers, inks, and other media to various surfaces according to customer specifications.

  • Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, photographs, verbal instructions, and online job assignments to complete projects accurately.

  • Use mathematical formulas (algebra, trigonometry) and measuring tools (rulers, tee squares, compasses) to perform precise layouts for banners, signs, and illustrations.

  • Create and manipulate graphics packages using computers, develop programming for computer-controlled printers/plotters, and install or upgrade related software.

  • Prepare and cut stencils by hand or machine and operate silk screen equipment to produce multiple copies of graphics.

  • Print graphics using various equipment including ink-based plotters, knife bed plotters, and thermal printers for decals.

  • Set up and safely use ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and manlifts to apply graphics on walls, ceilings, and other elevated surfaces.

  • Perform hand shading, striping, and color mixing/matching; sequence color application to prevent bleeding.

  • Maintain inventory of supplies such as paints, inks, and dyes to ensure availability for projects.

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on printing and plotting equipment; coordinate with outside vendors for parts and service as needed.

  • Handle hazardous materials (solvents, thinners, lacquers) safely and in accordance with company procedures, using appropriate personal protective equipment (respirators, gloves, aprons).

  • Maintain required personal certifications (e.g., manlift operation, respirator use).

  • Collaborate with various customers (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Airlines, Manufacturing) to develop and facilitate graphic package requests.

  • Create recognition award certificates and retirement portraits as needed.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience creating graphics or equivalent experience

  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering documents and drawings

  • 5+ years of experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, such as (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and other design software

  • Experience using all the following Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and Outlook).    

  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking in English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with hazardous materials

  • Experience working with standard measuring tools such as rulers, tape measures, scales.

  • Experience working in a fast paced, high-volume environment.

  • Bachelors Degree in graphic design

  • Portfolio strongly recommended

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Pay: $31.32/hour, with potential to earn up to $59.47/hour is accordance with the terms of the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
