The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking an experienced Principal Fatigue and Fracture Engineer to join the Air Dominance (AD) Platform Structures Capability and lead the Service Life organization in Berkeley, MO.  This extremely critical role will be a balance between program facing and functional capability with the opportunity to support various aircraft across the AD portfolio (F-15, F/A-18, MQ-25, T-7A, & development programs).

This position requires extensive knowledge in fatigue and fracture and will be responsible for technical decision making/oversight across AD platforms in various phases of the engineering life cycle (development, testing, production, and sustainment).  The individual will directly interface with Boeing Sr. leadership, external customers, and regulatory agencies to ensure airworthiness compliance and structural integrity. 

In addition to technical excellence, the integrator role will be responsible for maintaining/developing common methods & tools, executing building block, component, & full-scale test plans, and implementing strategies aligning to organizational, divisional, and business unit level goals/priorities (bolstering a core fatigue and fracture capability, establishing/leading technical council(s) to proactively address program concerns/issues, and publishing design practices applicable to current and emergent lessons learned/technologies).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct/lead technical design and non-advocate reviews performed across the portfolio and drive decisions leveraging data, engineering judgement, and experience

  • Perform fatigue, damage tolerance and risk analyses using advance computational methods and tools

  • Lead engineering teams supporting production, in-service issues and force/fleet management

  • Develop and implement best practices, including methodologies, tools, and processes through collaboration with critical stakeholders across the enterprise 

  • Conduct/oversee building block, component, and aircraft level testing to validate methods and analytical predictions

  • Work with customers and regulatory agencies to develop certification standards and ensure airworthiness requirements are achieved

  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to effectively communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders and internal/external customers

  • Mentor engineers at all levels (entry, early-career, experienced)

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically depending on business needs.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 20+ years of experience in the following areas/disciplines

    • Testing (building block, component level, full scale)

    • Statistical/probabilistic analysis

    • Fatigue loading (maneuvers, landings, gusts, buffet, etc.)

    • Spectrum generation (element and event based)

    • Durability and damage tolerance analysis/methodology (crack initiation & crack growth)

    • Production/fleet support

    • Fatigue impacts due to various manufacturing processes

    • Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP)

    • MIL-STD-1530

  • 10+ years of experience with fixed wing military aircraft platforms

  • 10+ years of experience collaborating with multiple customers (USN, USAF, domestic, foreign)

  • 10+ years of experience with industry standard structural analysis/fatigue software tools:

    • PATRAN/NASTRAN

    • StressCheck

    • NASGRO/AFGROW

  • Extensive knowledge/experience of customers and regulatory agencies’ requirements and certification processes

  • Ability to effectively communicate and work well with others across all levels

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years of experience with Boeing specific structural analysis/fatigue software tools:

    • CAESAR

    • SLAPWorks

    • LifeWorks

  • 3+ years of experience/knowledge across industry (Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin)

  • Active Secret Clearance

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Summary pay range: $166,600 - $225,400
