Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a PW Senior Digital Engineering Development Lead - Project Engineer (Level 5/6) to join our Phantom Works Digital Engineering team to support Digital Infrastructure and Engineering Ecosystems efforts for Proprietary Programs.

We are the Phantom Works Digital Engineering team creating and implementing innovative technologies that make the impossible possible and enabling the future of aerospace.

In pursuit of Boeing's research and business interests, the successful candidate will:

  • Deliver innovative, high impact solutions to address complex technical problems. 
  • Contribute effectively in both independent and team environments. 
  • Provide critical technical support and independent reviews of the work of teammate deliverables
  • Demonstrate ability in one or more of the following: project engineering for small, entrepreneurial teams; research & development and product development with highly technical, complex engineering systems and modeling.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead start-up of a PW digital engineering tech council to ensure interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle-balanced system-of-systems solutions.
  • Support creation and modification of development program approaches and top-level plans for highly complex programs consistent with enterprise development excellence models.
  • Support program proposal development and technical planning for proprietary programs.
  • Identify key program-level horizontal and vertical integration interfaces between major activities, teams, suppliers, partners and customers.
  • Uncover and resolve challenges related to the development and implementation of operational programs.
  • Analyze program and process metrics to identify trends and drive improvements, and recommend program recovery/acceleration plans, changes and corrective actions.
  • Lead the implementation of program management and digital engineering best practices.
  • Conduct independent technical and programmatic reviews to ensure quality, compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Develop, implement, and deliver effective customer and program communication strategies and contact plans.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at Berkeley, MO.

Travel may be required up to 15% of the time; Domestically depending on business needs.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. Top-Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience   
  • Proven ability to lead start-up of a functional chief engineer councils to ensure interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle-balanced system-of-systems solutions.
  • Experience developing and refining program approaches and top-level plans for highly complex programs consistent with enterprise standards.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting program proposal development and technical planning for proprietary classified and unclassified programs.
  • Proven track record identifying key program-level horizontal and vertical integration interfaces and challenges between major activities, teams, suppliers, partners and customers.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing program and process metrics and delivering solutions incorporating the use of program management and digital engineering best practices.
  • Prior experience conducting independent technical and programmatic reviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to developing and executing customer and program communication and contact plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

Technical Competencies

  • Deep expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches, SysML, and lifecycle data models across systems, software, and hardware domains.
  • Experience designing and implementing secure digital engineering ecosystems that support both classified and unclassified program baselines, including data classification, multi-level security concepts, and information protection controls.
  • Familiarity with cloud architectures (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government) for secure workloads, container orchestration (Kubernetes), microservices, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Knowledge of PLM/ALM integration patterns, model repositories, federated vs centralized data strategies, and provenance/traceability mechanisms across the digital thread.
  • Experience with digital twin concepts, simulation integration, and linking physics-based models with engineering data and operational datasets.
  • Demonstrated understanding of DevSecOps practices applied to engineering toolchains (CI/CD for models, automated verification, toolchain security).
  • Experience with interoperability standards and data exchange formats (AP233, OSLC, STEP, ReqIF, FMI).
  • Background in cybersecurity controls and compliance frameworks relevant to defense programs (NIST SP 800-53, NIST 800-171, CMMC, RMF/A&A).

Engineering & Leadership Competencies

  • Track record of architecting and deploying end-to-end digital engineering capabilities at program or enterprise scale.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional DE technical councils and influence technical direction across engineering, IT, cybersecurity, suppliers and customers.
  • Experience developing program-level integration and verification strategies that leverage digital engineering artifacts for virtual verification and continuous validation.
  • Strong mentoring and talent development experience to grow digital engineering capability in teams.
  • Experience with proposals and program capture activities, including technical solution development, cost/benefit analysis and risk assessment for digital infrastructure investments.

  • MBSE tools: Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, Capella, No Magic, etc.
  • PLM/ALM: Teamcenter, Windchill, DOORS, JAMA, Polarion, Jira.
  • Cloud & DevOps: AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Jenkins/GitLab CI.
  • Scripting & data tooling: Python, SQL, REST APIs, data transformation tools.
  • Security/compliance tooling and processes for classification, tagging, and access control.

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 6

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range (Level 5): $140,250 - $189,750

Summary pay range (Level 6): $164,900 - $223,100
