The Global Enterprise Sustainability (GES) organization was formed to support Boeing’s mission to connect, protect and explore our world and beyond, safely and sustainably. Our Sustainability Programs, Risk and Reporting (SPRR) team has an outstanding opportunity for a strategic problem solver with a passion for sustainability who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment.

We are seeking a Senior Manager to lead our Northwest-region Environmental Remediation and Environmental Policy team who will proactively manage with a focus on team engagement, project strategy, compliance and risk mitigation. This position is based in Tukwila, WA, and a minimum of three days per week in-office is required.

Position Responsibilities:

Remediation  

  • Leads Northwest-regional team, responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of complex environmental remediation projects including current operating sites and third-party owned sites

  • Develops/implements/supports strategies and solutions to meet remediation compliance obligations and mitigate risk

  • Builds relationships and works collaboratively with regulatory agencies, external parties and internal stakeholders throughout all phases of remediation from investigation to operation and maintenance

  • Partners with internal functions (Finance, Law, Government Operations, Communications), publicly represents Boeing at community and public meetings, and interacts with government regulators, public officials, Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs) and other key stakeholders

  • Partners with Law on regulatory compliance, project strategies, and allocation activities for the Northwest portfolio of remediation sites

  • Applies knowledge of project and program management best practices to manage cost, schedule and risk to ensure technical integrity and business goals are achieved

  • Prepares, manages and communicates remediation portfolio budget of environmental liabilities to senior management; conducts financial, project status and risk reviews across the portfolio

 Environmental Policy 

  • Leads a team responsible for evaluation of environmental regulations, laws, and policies at U.S. federal and state level, and for some non-U.S. locations; topics generally include air, water, waste, and climate/sustainability

  • Leads and/or supports advocacy efforts to influence emerging regulations, law, and legislation, in partnership with internal functions (Law, Government Operations and Communications), to protect Boeing's business interests

  • Communicates regulatory requirements and risk mitigation plans to business units and cross-functional partners

  • Provides strategic planning and implementation support to business partners for significant environmental permitting and compliance strategies (e.g. stormwater, air emissions, etc.)

Critical skills and experiences for success in the role include:

  • Strong team leader/manager with experience in talent development and dynamic team operation  

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including ability to establish relationships and build trust with key stakeholders including customers, peers, business and functional partners, and team members 

  • Excellent written, presentation and interpersonal communications skills for internal and external audiences at all levels 

  • Experience working with environmental regulatory agencies and leading engagements with external audiences 

  • Experience leading diverse teams of technical and academic experts, consensus building and decision making on complex regulatory/technical matters, and coordination with other responsible parties and their contractors 

  • Critical thinking, problem solving and strategic decision making  

  • Collaborative approach to teamwork & partnership 

  • Strong program/project management experience 

  • Financial acumen including working knowledge of FASB accounting standards codes related to environmental remediation liabilities  

  • Proficient to sophisticated in presentation development/PowerPoint and data analysis/Excel

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field  

  • 5+ years of experience leading teams or in a management role

  • 5+ years of experience managing environmental compliance, and/or remediation activities/projects  

  • 5+ years of experience managing and communicating risk

  • Experience leading through influence and partnering with cross-functional teams on projects and initiatives

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 10+ years of experience managing environmental compliance, investigation, remediation activities and projects  

  • Experience managing and directing contractors on environmental remediation projects  

  • Experience with U.S. state and federal regulatory requirements and policy, such as Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), including reviewing and interpreting environmental regulations relating to remediation work and/or industrial site operations

  • Direct experience working closely with regulatory agency staff, supporting public outreach activities and compliance proceedings (e.g. permit hearings)  

  • Advanced degree (Master’s degree or above) in related field

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range: $168,300 - $227,700
