Job Description

Boeing Defense, Space & Security’s Vertical Lift division is seeking an Associate or Experienced Mass Properties Engineer at the Ridley Park, PA site to support all vertical lift programs. Vertical Lift also provides a wide range of support on programs across the enterprise, primary for the Army’s AH-6, AH-64, CH-47, MH-47, the Air Force’s CV-22, MH-139, and Marines/Navy’s MV-22, CMV-22.  Along with these programs the Ridley Park site supports a large portfolio of products including other Vertical Lift Programs, Commercial Aircraft, Fixed Wing Fighters, Satellites, Space Launch Systems, and many others.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform estimation, calculation, and measurement/verification of mass, center of gravity, and inertias of components, assemblies and completed vehicles or systems

  • Support Mass Properties control and management plan execution across the program

  • Coordinate with SME’s across the program to understand weight impacts of design decisions

  • Support the development and presentation of weight status or technical data to design teams, program leadership, and the customer

  • Support the development, population, enhancement and maintenance of the mass properties database including the generation of weight and balance reports

  • Review and support detail and installation drawing release processes

  • Support development of center of gravity envelopes to ensure loadability requirements are met

  • Creates, develops and implements new processes and tools to facilitate improved design and analysis capabilities

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):  

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science. (And 5+ years’ experience and a Bachelor’s or 3+ years with a Master’s (Level 3) or 2+ years’ experience and a Bachelor’s or a Master’s (Level 2))

  • 1+ years’ experience in Mass Properties

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with CAD systems (CATIA/UG/3DX)

  • Good oral and written communication skills are necessary to communicate with the design teams, other mass properties engineers or to present data in a group atmosphere.

  • Experience with Society of Allied Weight Engineers (SAWE) recommended practices (RP 7 & 8)

  • Experience developing and maintaining weight, balance and mass properties accounting systems/tools and generating weight and balance reports

  • Experience with aircraft weighing equipment, general weighing procedures

  • Experience using a mass properties database in order to track weight and center of gravity information

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range for (level 2):  $81,600  -  $110,400

Summary pay range (Level 3): $  - $100,300 - $135,700
