Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Materials Management Specialist to join our Materials Management & Tooling team in the Puget Sound in Washington.

As a Materials Management Specialist, you will be essential in maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety throughout the materials handling and management processes. Your role will involve receiving, sorting, and storing materials, tools, and equipment while ensuring accurate inventory control and compliance with operational standards. You will be responsible for cleaning and preparing surfaces, loading and maintaining sealing equipment, and applying sealants and topcoats according to specifications. Additionally, you will assist with pressure testing operations and perform functional tests to identify and address any leaks, all while adhering to established safety protocols. Your attention to detail will be critical in conducting visual inspections of incoming hardware, performing necessary rework, and maintaining the 5S process for organization and efficiency.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily work and analysis in various production and management computing systems, including Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), utilizing spreadsheets and databases.

  • Order, receive, and evaluate tools, flyaway materials, shop supplies, and equipment to support shop operations, ensuring alignment with shop needs through various computer programs.

  • Maintain inventory accuracy by visually matching, analyzing, and reconciling discrepancies in tools and parts, and utilizing Boeing databases for updates and job functions.

  • Issue and route tools, parts, standards, and safety equipment (e.g., safety glasses, dust masks) to shop personnel, while maintaining thorough inventory control and sending used equipment for refurbishment as needed.

  • Understand and coordinate within the manufacturing system to maintain production output, resolving complexities related to Materials Management to keep production schedules on track.

  • Communicate effectively with internal customers to ensure timely delivery of products and services, and review work areas for job assignments or assistance from supervisors.

  • Operate material handling equipment and vehicles (e.g., pallet jacks, overhead hoists) to move freight, load and unload transportation containers, and unpack shipping materials while adhering to safety protocols.

  • Inspect tools and materials for defects, discrepancies, and damage, including checking age-date-controlled items, and service satellite supply/tool areas as required.

  • Verify shipment information through visual inspection and measuring devices, investigate discrepancies, and process corrections, repairs, replacements, or rejections, as necessary.

  • Maintain the 5S process for organization and cleanliness, ensuring proper labeling and FIFO processes for tools and parts storage, including numbering and tagging new tools.

  • Utilize technology, including computers and handheld scanning devices, to perform work functions, process paperwork, and maintain status information and logbooks.

  • Sort freight and route it to the appropriate areas. Position completed work orders for issuing/receiving and provide status updates on material availability to management.

  • Assist colleagues with functions and procedures, safely handle hazardous materials using personal protective equipment, and regularly maintain required training and certifications.

  • Prepare items for shipment, ensuring proper documentation and coordination for flyaway kits, grief resolution, and vendor pickups while inspecting and clearing toolboxes as needed.

  • Identify and implement improvements for processes and procedures, assist in kitting, relabeling, and repackaging materials under supervision, and arrange to loan tools and equipment as required.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties. 

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience with inventory, stock, or supply chain.​

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).​

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience in warehouse or logistics operations.​

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.​

  • Ability to walk constantly throughout the workday; stand 6-8 hours per day; climb or work from stairs/steps up to 8 hours per day; climb ladders; bend and twist frequently up to six hours per day; squat and kneel.​

  • Capable of lifting, pushing and pulling up to 35 pounds.

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range:$23.00 – $47.22 per hour
