Job Description

Boeing Global Services (BGS) is seeking a highly experienced Payloads Engineer (Senior or Lead) to join the Payloads Interior Modification team in Long Beach, California. This role will lead payloads engineering projects on all Boeing airplane models. The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader, mentor a multidisciplinary team, and collaborate across functional groups to deliver a wide range of airplane retrofits.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on Payloads Engineering for Interior Modifications, guiding project teams towards engineering solutions that meet customer requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Drive execution of complex and high-visibility projects from proposal to completion, leading risk management, assessing scope changes and schedule impacts while coordinating across multi-functional teams.
  • Responsible for defining engineering work statement for the project, providing tasks, hours, flows and resource needs, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Present project status to leadership, program managers, and key stakeholders, identifying risks, issues and opportunities.
  • Act as a Design Approval Engineer (DAE) mentor by providing expert guidance on compliance, certification processes, and regulatory requirements, ensuring all designs meet FAA, EASA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Support project proposal activities by reviewing statement of work, assessing potential impact to certification or to configuration control, and by defining overall effort required to complete the project.
  • Mentor engineers and global engineering teams, developing key competencies and providing training to technical skills.
  • Provide engineering oversight to Boeing global partners. Manage work assignments and distribution to global partners; review and approve their work for quality and accuracy to ensure that it meets Boeing standards and certification requirements.
  • Drive technical design reviews with affected groups, leading discussions, providing strategic direction, and influencing project outcomes.
  • Present engineering technical information in customer and supplier meetings.
  • Apply engineering principles to investigate technical inquiries, technical deviations, customer/modification site inquiries, non-conformances, non-compliances, operational and quality issues; lead teams to develop engineering solutions.
  • Review and approve service bulletins, certification plans, supplier data, and engineering deliverables.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and technical excellence.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, developing new tools and methodologies to enhance engineering capabilities.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required to support program milestones, customer meetings, and on-site engineering support.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):             

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science)
  • 10+ years of experience in aircraft payloads/interiors engineering, including modifications and fleet retrofits.
  • In-depth understanding of FAA and EASA certification processes (e.g., Part 25, Part 21, STC approvals).
  • Proven experience leading complex commercial aircraft modification programs.
  • Expertise in aircraft interiors, structures, materials, and systems integration.
  • Strong leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interface with customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with CATIA, ENOVIA, or similar design tools.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years of experience working with post-production aircraft modifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical topics to senior leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate across multiple disciplines to drive project success.
  • Willingness to tackle new technical challenges and expand expertise into unfamiliar areas.
  • Passion for continuous improvement in aircraft design, performance, and efficiency.
  • In-depth knowledge of CFR Part 25 regulatory requirements and compliance.
  • Proficiency in IVT, experience with PDM, and DE/DDE Approver credentials are highly beneficial.
  • 15.4 Payloads DAE credentials are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Extensive experience in reviewing and approving Service Bulletins with a strong understanding of certification impacts.
  • Experience with Evacuation Systems and Water/Waste is beneficial but not required.
  • Deep expertise in aircraft interiors and Payloads commodities, including overhead stowage bins, lavatories, galleys, seats, PSU, sidewalls, air grilles, flight deck seats, and more.
  • Project management or PMP certification is a plus.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range (Level 4): $120,700 - $163,300

Summary pay range (Level 5): $143,650 - $194,350
