The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Strategy and Operations Manager to lead and optimise the BDA Engineering Management System (EMS), Digital Engineering Strategy, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) strategy, and Engineering Skill Stream leadership. This role is instrumental in ensuring consistency, efficiency, and innovation across BDA's engineering functions, while also managing workforce strategy, talent development, and operational tempo.

As a key member of the BDA Engineering Senior Leadership Team, this role reports to the BDA Director of Engineering and partners with Business Unit Directors & Engineering Managers to strategically manage our engineering workforce. This role is also the skill stream leader for Engineering Leaders across the BDA business. The Strategy and Operations Manager will also serve as the primary interface between BDA Engineering and enterprise-level Engineering functional leaders, ensuring seamless alignment with broader organisational objectives.

This role can be based in either Brisbane, Melbourne or Adelaide.

Key Responsibilities for the Engineering Strategy and Operations Manager are:

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and implement BDA Engineering's strategic priorities, operational tempo, and performance reporting to drive improve engineering performance in BDA programs.
    • Ensure the alignment of BDA engineering strategy with Enterprise, BGS, and BDS Engineering strategies.
    • Champion a unified approach to engineering skill stream leadership, fostering best practices across teams.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Oversee the BDA Engineering Management System (EMS) to drive consistency, efficiency, and governance.
    • Establish and manage workforce planning, talent development, recruitment, and remuneration processes.
    • Support Engineering Skill Stream Leaders in delivering high-quality engineering products and services.
    • Ensure a safe, high-performing, and cost-effective engineering environment.
  • People & Talent Development
    • Implement career development pathways for engineers, fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.
    • Lead talent identification and growth initiatives, including succession planning and skills development.
    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Financial & Resource Management
    • Oversee resource demand forecasting and workforce planning across all designated skill streams.
    • Ensure efficient allocation of engineering personnel across programs, balancing direct and indirect costs.
    • Collaborate with business unit leaders to optimise engineering investments.


What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in engineering strategy, operations, and leadership within a complex organisation.
  • Strong ability to integrate cross-functional engineering teams, aligning processes and priorities.
  • Understanding of and experience in Engineering Management Systems.
  • Expertise in some of engineering workforce planning, digital transformation, and PLM strategies.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
  • A solutions-oriented mindset, committed to delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.
