The opportunity

The Boeing MQ28 - Ghost Bat is a globally-significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities. Developed in partnership with the Royal Australian Air Force, it is the first military combat aircraft to be designed, manufactured and assembled in Australia in 50 years.

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) are seeking a MechanicalSystems Engineerto join the MQ-28 Integrated Test Team and realise new capabilities through design development, testing and support of the air vehicle and related test equipment.

The role is based in RAAF Base Amberley or may be based in Brisbane.

As a Mechanical Systems Engineer on the MQ-28 program you will:

  • Actively contribute to the development of a cutting-edge capability through exposure to all facets of the product lifecycle.
  • Provide engineering support for mechanical systems over the product lifecycle.
  • Conduct technical investigations and resolve product defects.
  • Disposition problem reports generated from ground and flight testing.
  • Develop air vehicle modification kits through collaboration between design and maintenance teams.

To be considered for the role you will have:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in engineering development, integration or support projects.
  • Hold Tertiary qualifications in either Aerospace, Mechanical, or Mechatronics, that satisfies the requirements for membership with Engineers Australia (MIEAust).
  • Demonstrated experience with the design, test or support of air vehicle mechanical systems e.g. landing gear, hydraulics, powerplant or flight controls.
  • Familiarity with engineering change processes (highly regarded).
  • Experience developing engineering artefacts within the Defence Aviation Safety Regulation (DASR) environment (highly regarded).
  • Experience with UAV or Autonomous Systems projects (highly regarded).
  • Experience with 3D modelling and design tools (highly regarded).

Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.

You may require a Foreign Work Authorisation (FWA) in order to perform this role. This is not a requirement set or determined by Boeing but by the Department of Defence under laws issued in 2024.
